2009 Rigamarole; Okanagan Valley $14.99

I chose this wine for three reasons.  The price, the name and the varietal blend.  Rigamarole…… a complicated procedure or foolish, meaningless, incoherent talk.  (re:dictionary.com)   Sounds all too familiar to me this these last couple of weeks. :)

This wine is a great blend of Gamay, Pinot Noir and Merlot.  I didn’t decant this wine, but after letting it  breathe and open up, I found a nice aroma of oak and dark pit fruit.   This dark, ripe pit fruit and subtle oak are on the palate as well, with some spice.  The tannins are very smooth and the finish is long.  Overall, this is an interesting red.  I will decant this wine next time to introduce more air and let the wine really open up.  For the price, it is a great value.  The more I sip this wine, I am thinking Merlot is the predominant variety in this blend, but why go through the rigamarole of finding out.  Savor your sips!
